About Academy for East-Asian Tort Law Academy for East-Asian Tort Law (hereinafter refer to as AETL) is a regional association for tort law study in Asia. It was initiated in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province of China, by tort scholars from East-Asian jurisdictions on July 2, 2010. The purpose of AETL is as follows: to unite legal scholars and professionals of tort law in jurisdictions in East Asia and other parts of Asia, study tort laws in East Asia, formulate “Model East-Asian Tort Law”, promote the unification of tort laws of East Asia, and lay a foundation for a unified tort law of Asia. There are more than 50 members from Mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao, with Prof. YANG Lixin (Renmin University of China, Mainland China), Prof. Matsumoto Tsuneo (Hitotubasi University, Japan), Prof. SO, Jae-Sean (Kyung Hee University, Korea), Prof. PAN Wei-Ta (Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan), Prof. YU Guanghua (The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong), Prof. TONG Io Cheng (University of Macao, Macao) as the general director of their respective jurisdictions. The director meeting is composed of and chaired by jurisdiction directors according to the alphabetic order of their first names. Prof. YANG Zhen acts as the deputy director and general secretary, responsible for the work of the secretariat. We embrace all the researchers, professionals and people who identify with the rules of the academy, have rich theoretical and practical experiences in tort law, and are committed to research, and make joint efforts to the unification of the tort law in Asia!
